January – May
The Developing Leaders Initiative (DLI) is an annual premier leadership experience for twelve undergraduate students who are selected through an application and recommendation process. The program spans five-months with an initial face-to-face leadership retreat, monthly virtual meetings and a policy presentation to the Octagon.
Program objectives include:
All expenses (transportation, lodging, meals, etc.) are provided by a Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation Grant. There is no expense to the undergraduate participant.
The Octagon will provide topics or areas of the Fraternity that need reformed, revised and revamped. These topics or areas will be centered around Sigma Alpha Mu’s approach to tackling global fraternity issues. DLI will decide on one of those proposed topics and will work over the six months on that project, with a final virtual presentation to the Octagon on the completed project. The Octagon is looking forward to having undergraduate input and direction on these important areas of the Fraternity.
The project will include: Analyzing the area or topic, researching best practices, creating an action plan, and implementing the action plan.
How to Apply:
All undergraduate members of Sigma Alpha Mu chapters and provisional chapters are eligible to apply. Applicants must be in Good Standing within chapter and institution.
