Review of Case Study

It is the third week of the Candidate Process and the chapter is preparing for Big/Little Reveal. The chapter has been following the True MDH 6-week program. John, the Candidate Educator, tells the candidates that since they are mid-way through the process they will need to prove to the chapter what they have learned thus far.

Assistant Candidate Educator, Tommy, walks the candidates into the chapter room of the house. Every brother is standing on chairs with the Council sitting upfront. John, the Candidate Educator, instructs the candidates to line up according to their body count and tells them that they will not be able to receive their Bigs until they get everything correct. If they get an answer wrong, they (as a group) will need to eat a handful of whatever is in the bin on the table (which happens to be dry cat food). Brothers begin yelling out questions, ‘What is the Founding Date?” “What is my hometown?” “Who was our first chapter Prior?” and the candidate attempt to answer them, getting some correct and also some wrong.

Bryan (candidate) shows up 15 minutes late because he had an exam. Tommy (Assistant Cand. Ed) says, “That for being late and holding up your fellow candidates, everyone has to eat a handful from the bin.”

By the end of the night, a few new members have thrown up and are not feeling well. John (candidate educator), says that they need to do better if they want to get initiated into the chapter and tells them to, “Get out” and that their Bigs are waiting for them in the next room.  As the candidates go into the next room, brothers are yelling “Surprise!” and everyone meets their Big! A few of the Bigs take their Littles out drinking that evening to celebrate getting through the midway check-in.
